The soloist and programme for the Licence to Fall in Love concert have been announced!
The soloist for the concert of London Philharmonia conducted the Artistic Director of Mikkeli Music Festival, Mr. Erkki Lasonpalo, is Finnish top soprano Miina-Liisa Värelä. She is one of Finland's most promising lyrical-dramatic sopranos, known not only for her opera roles that have achieved international success, but also for her extensive lied-repertoire. Värelä, who graduated with excellent grades from the Sibelius Academy's opera school in 2013, won both the Timo Mustakallio singing competition at the Savonlinna Opera Festival in the summer of 2011 and the Kangasniemi singing competition in the summer of 2009.

The concert will begin with Lotta Wennäkoski's Verdigris, which is the composer's own reference to Sibelius's Satu. The Sibelius theme will continue with a suite of Sibelius's songs arranged by Jaakko Kuusisto. The evening will conclude with Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Op. 36, which is known as one of the composer's most successful compositions in his own opinion.
