Game Music Collective - For the move of game music

Game Music Collective - For the move of game music

The 4.8 concert will feature game music for all tastes, from new to retro games. Come and jump into the amazing soundscapes of game music!

"One of my favourite experiences with Game Music Collective was the audience rush at our first concert and the spontaneous outbursts of emotion from the audience at Finlandia Hall in 2027. We hadn't seen reactions like crying, laughing and cheering when we were working on the classical music side. The audience had a different relationship with game music than with music in general." says Markus Kärki, head of music production at Game Music Collective.

"Games’ soundscapes and music is precisely what leads the player's soul into the two-dimensional visual world of games" reflected Lukas Stasevskij, a founding member of the Game Music Collective orchestra, in an interview with Satakunta Kansa on 11/2023. Music heard while playing a game often evokes strong nostalgic feelings, even after years of playing.

Finnish-Ukrainian Stasevskij founded the Game Music Collective after discovering that game music was not often performed in concerts, even though it is widely listened to on streaming services. Europe's first professional game music orchestra, Game Music Collective, was born.

In its short life, the orchestra has been a success story. It has performed to packed halls in Finlandia Hall, Logomo, Tampere Hall and Helsinki Culture House, served as a studio orchestra for Supercell (Clash of Clans) and achieved 25 million views on its YouTube videos. In addition, Game Music Collective's RESTART (Finnish Game Music Revised) album was nominated for the 2024 Emma Award.

Video game soundtracks range from short loops and 8-bit music for mobile games to atmospheric music for storytelling console games, so sometimes you have to be extra creative in your adaptation work, according to Markus Kärje. Even a single track can contain everything from the playing of a lone piper to the roar of a full symphony orchestra.

In Game Music Collective, arranging is done on the terms of game music. That's why the orchestra is a hybrid of symphony orchestra and band, combining electronic and acoustic instruments, smoke machines and a visual look true to the aesthetics of games.

On 4 August, Game Music Collective will perform together with the young musicians of Symphony Orchestra Vivo, conducted by conductor Erkki Lasonpalo and founding member Lukas Stasevskij. The vocal parts will be performed by the brilliant soprano Iris Candelaria and the Male Choir Alvar from Jyväskylä.

The concert will feature game music to suit all tastes, from new and retro games. The programme includes music from games such as Angry Birds, the world-famous fantasy games Final Fantasy and Skyrim, and Remedy's Alan Wake. Halo, Kingdom Hearts, Destiny and The Last of Us are also included, while retro games from the 1980s and 90s include Secret of Mana and Megaman. The first half of the concert is perfect for the youngest members of the family, while the second half takes a deeper dive into the world of video games.
