Introduction
The Mikkeli Music Festival will culminate in the fourth guest concert by London's star orchestra, the Philharmonia.
In the closing concert, the Philharmonia will take to the stage under the baton of the festival's artistic director, conductor Erkki Lasonpalo. The programme offers listeners the grandeur of the closing celebrations with Bedřich Smetana's Moldau, Edward Elgar's moving Cello Concerto and Jean Sibelius' First Symphony. The powerful music comes to life in the orchestra's skilful interpretation and the moods transport you from the banks of the Vltava to the English countryside and all the way to the Nordic landscape.
The soloist is the top Finnish-Dutch cellist Jonathan Roozeman, who has performed on several continents and with many of Finland's leading conductors. Roozeman's recording of Kalevi Aho's Cello Concerto with Olari Elts and the Kymi Symphony Orchestra (Bis 2023) has also garnered critical acclaim.
Concert duration approx. 2h, intermission 30 min.
The Philharmonia's concerts at Mikkeli Music Festival in 2023-2026 are supported by the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation.
