This cruise takes you from Mikkeli straight to the heart of Lake Saimaa, to the impressive rock paintings of Astuvansalmi. The cruise culminates with Jenni Hanika’s enchanting “Roots and Wings” performance – a musical journey where Finnish roots and world soundscapes meet in the middle of the most beautiful lake nature in Lake Saimaa.

1:15 PM Departure for the cruise on the M/S Aino ship

1:30 PM - 2:15 PM Visit to the Astuvansalmi rock paintings

3:30 PM Cruise ends at the Varkaantaipale canal

Introduction

Jenni Hanikka is a flutist and singer who has participated in numerous national and international projects across different continents. Her roots lie in Nordic and Finno-Ugric traditional music, but her musical projects have taken her to Mongolia, China, Borneo, Nepal, and India, as well as Mali and Denmark. In her solo concert “Roots and Wings,” Hanikka combines traditional melodies and her own compositions with live looping and improvisation. The performance offers the listener a musical journey in which her Finnish roots accompany her as she travels from one continent to another.
