Jyväskylä Symphony and Vivo Symphony Orchestra open the Mikkeli Music Festival 2025. The concert will be conducted by Erkki Lasonpalo. As piano soloist will be Mikkeli Music Festival Young Artist 2024 Anton Meijas.
In the opening concert vibrant masterpieces are heard by Mejias and orchestra musicians, old and young, that get to show their amazing talent. Repertoire will take the listeners to the world of legends, for example to the world of the Finnish national epic Kalevala.
Uuno Klamis five-peace Kalevala-series was born as the composer took on a wish from a composer-conductor Robert Kajanus. The music is bright, rhythmic, nostalgic, mystic and explosive.
As a prelude for Prokofjevs virtuotic 2nd piano concerto is Igor Stravinskys The Firebird that is also inspired by folklore. Stravinsky composed the piece for Sergei Diaghilevs ballet group that was located in Paris. The Firebird is a tale of a strong female spirit flying on sparkling wings, protecting the world.
Professor Emeritus of the University of Helsinki, Eero Tarasti, will present the concert program in Mikaeli Chamber Music Hall one hour prior to the concert (in Finnish).
