Finnish-cuban Anton Mejias, born 2001, excepptional talent as a pianist was notisable already in his childhood. Mejias, who was inspired by Bach, played his firs solo recital at 8 years old and learned by 10 had learned the complete Bach Das wohltemperierte Klavier I collection. Since then he has added both french and english suites, all six partitas and Das wohltemperierte Klavier II -collection that will be performed in Mikkeli.
Anton Mejias started to study piano at 5-years-old and continued his studies in Sibelius Academy under Teppo Koivisto and Niklas Pok. Most resently Mejias has studied in Curtis Institute of Music in Ignat Solzhenitsyns studio and done extra studies under renowned Gary Graffman. Mejias won great prices at Viotti International Music Competition and international piano competition and Nordic Piano Competition.
In august 2023 Anton Mejias made a debut in the United States with Los Angeles Philharmonic at Hollywood Bowl conducted by Tarmo Peltokoski. Season 2023-24 he performed his recitale debut at Ruhr Klavier-Festival, Dresdner Musikfestspiel and Munich. Season 2024-25 he debues a resital in Berlin.
Other than Peltokoski Mejias has performed with conductors Klaus Mäkelä and Lawrence Renes. He has played with Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and The Hallé Orchestra from Manchester. In February 2023 he performed Schuberts Winterreise -resital with baritone Matthias Goern at Théâtre du Capitolessa in Toulouse.
Meijas debut album "The Art of Memory" was published in March 2025. The album contains the world premier record of Philip Lassers The Art of Memory -prelude suite as a consert recording. Suite in question is composed for Mejias to be performed with J.S. Bachs das Wohltemperierte Klavier II collection. Mejias played both pieces at Dresden Festspiele festival where the album was recorded. The solo resital in Mikkeli the 3rd of August is the Finnish premiere of the album.
