Angelika Klas is known as an exceptionally versatile artist. Beyond standard soprano repertoire, she is an acclaimed Piazzolla and tango interpreter. Her extensive repertoire includes orchestral and chamber music from baroque to contemporary, as well as operetta and music theatre works.
She graduated from the Sibelius Academy’s vocal department and has also studied at the Royal Danish Conservatory. In addition, she has participated in numerous international masterclasses. In Finland, her teachers have included Jaakko Ryhänen and Marjut Hannula.
Klas has performed several major opera roles, including the Countess in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen, and Maria in Piazzolla’s Maria de Buenos Aires. She has appeared at major venues such as Moscow’s Novaya Opera, the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, the Savonlinna Opera Festival and the Finnish National Opera. She is also a sought-after operetta and musical theatre soloist, having performed leading roles in works such as J. Strauss Jr.’s Die Fledermaus (Rosalinde) and Wiener Blut (Countess Zedlau), Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld (Eurydice), Kálmán’s Countess Mariza (Mariza), Lehár’s The Count of Luxembourg (Angèle Didier), and the title role in the musical
Tamara at Turku City Theatre.
Angelika Klas has appeared at numerous international festivals including the Korsholm Music Festival, Turku and Naantali Music Festivals, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival and the Helsinki Festival. She has performed as a soloist with most Finnish orchestras, including the Tampere Philharmonic, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Kymi Sinfonietta, Oulu Symphony Orchestra, Kuopio and Lappeenranta City Orchestras, Pori Sinfonietta, and Vantaa Pops Orchestra. She has also performed in Sweden, Estonia, Germany, France, Spain, Lithuania, Hungary, Norway, Russia, and Denmark.
Klas is the lead vocalist of the tango-specialized Kotaja Quintet. Her discography includes several acclaimed albums: Tango Querido (2010), Kohtalona Tango (2013), Tähtisumua (2017), and Tango Piazzolla (2018).
