Timo Riihonen is one of the top Finnish bass singers with an international career. Riihonen studied at the Sibelius Academy (Master of Music, 2010). In 2007 he was awarded the Matti Salminen scholarship and in 2008 he won the highest prize in the men's category at the Lappeenranta Song Contest. This was followed by engagements at the Zurich Opera Studio, Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the Kiel Opera House. He has appeared as a soloist at Europe's major opera houses (e.g. Berliini, Munich, La Scala, Covent Garden) and festivals (e.g. Bayreuth, Savonlinna, Aix-en-Provence) around the world.
Riihonen will continue his career as a freelance artist and in the coming years will perform at the Bavarian State Opera, Finnish National Opera, Prague State Opera, Covent Garden, London and the Savonlinna Opera Festival. In addition, Timo has given concerts in Finland and abroad.
In addition to his singing career, Riihonen teaches singing at the Sibelius Academy, among others.
