Sonja Herranen is one of the most promising sopranos in Finland at the moment. Her noble and expansive voice and natural stage radiation has already received acclaim in many competitions, opera and concert stages. Herranen has graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with Heli Veskus as her teacher. Herranen has also studied privately with Dale Fundling.
In the spring of 2023, Herranen won the Elisabeth Connell Prize International Singing Competition in London. Earlier that year, she came second in the Lappeenranta Singing Competition. In 2019, Herranen won the Eero Rantala Fund prize in the Timo Mustakallio competition. Herranen has performed as soloist for the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, Jyväskylä Sinfonia, Lappeenranta City Orchestra and Kuopio City Orchestra.
In 2022 Herranen debuted at the Finnish National Opera in Mozart's Magic Flute in the role of the 1st Woman. In the 2023-2024 season of Finnish National Opera, she played the role of the 3rd Norna in Wagner's Götterdämmerung. In the summer of 2024 Herranen will make debut at the Savonlinna Opera Festival playing the role of Donna Elvira in Mozart's Don Giovanni.
