Mari Palo

Soprano

Mari Palo is one of the most sought-after Finnish sopranos both on domestic stage and international stages. As a versatile artist, Palo has captivated audiences with her radiant presence across genre boundaries, from classic lied and opera repertoire to lighter music.

Mari Palo began her vocal studies at the Central Ostrobothnia Conservatory and graduated with a master's degree in music from the Sibelius Academy. She has performed around the world as a lied singer and soloist in orchestras, and she is also a popular guest at chamber music festivals.

Palo has performed on the stage of the Finnish National Opera since 1999, her recent roles including Mona in Jaakko Kuusisto's Jää and Hanna Glavari in Franz Lehar's Merry Widow. She sang the role of Minna Craucher in Jukka Linkola's opera Hiljaiset perivät maan, premiered at Ilmajoki music festival in the summer of 2022. In March 2023, Mari Palo will be seen in Philip Venables' award-winning contemporary opera Denis & Katya.

In addition to her full concert calendar, Palo also passes on her expertise to future colleagues, working as a lecturer at Kokkola University of Applied Sciences.

Mari Palo works together with Jukka Perko as the artistic director of the Oulu Music Festival. The President of the Finland awarded the Pro Finlandia medal to her in 2019.
