Silja Aalto’s lyric-dramatic, warm-toned soprano has captivated audiences both in Finland and abroad. Highlights of her past season include role debuts as Elisabetta di Valois (Don Carlo) at the Finnish National Opera and as Riitta (The Last Temptations) at the Tampere Opera and the Savonlinna Opera Festival. She also received rave reviews as the soloist in Saariaho’s Mirage at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Sakari Oramo, and performed Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 with the Vanemuine Symphony Orchestra and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, conducted by Tarmo Peltokoski.
Her engagements for the current season include Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, her role debut as Senta in The Flying Dutchman at the Opéra de Rouen in France, Sibelius’s Luonnotar at the Finnish National Opera, and her debut in the title role of Madama Butterfly at the Savonlinna Opera Festival.
Aalto has appeared frequently at the Estonian National Opera, where her roles have included Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Mimì (La bohème), Leonora (Il trovatore), and Elsa (Lohengrin). Her operatic repertoire also features Leonore (Fidelio), Sieglinde (Die Walküre), First Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Mrs. Alice Ford (Falstaff), Helena (A Midsummer Night's Dream), and Minna (E. Rautavaara: The Gift of the Magi).
Following her success in international singing competitions, Aalto has performed extensively at various festivals. She studied under Eeva-Liisa Saarinen at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, graduating in 2018.
