Pianist Mirva Helske holds Master of Arts degrees from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, and has studied at the Sibelius Academy and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (MDW) with professors Ivari Ilja, Eero Heinonen, Ilmo Ranta and Christiane Karajeva.
As a performing artist Helske has focused on chamber music and art song. In recent years she has taken an interest in opera and concert programmes that combine music with thematic and dramaturgical elements.
Helske’s artistic work is rooted in a strong classical tradition, extensive experience in collaborative musicianship, and versatility developed through her pedagogical work as an accompanist.
She has gained recognition as a sensitive and insightful collaborative pianist with a deep understanding of stylistic nuances, which has made her a valued Lied partner in concerts and competitions. She has performed with her colleagues in Finland and abroad at numerous competitions and music festivals, including the International Klaudia Taev Competition and Sibelius Singing Competition, the Kangasniemi Singing Competition, the Joensuu and Mikkeli Music Festivals, as well as the Oulainen and Joroinen Music Weeks.
Alongside her career as a pianist, Helske has worked as a producer for the Mänttä Music Festival and served as Festival Director of the Mikkeli Music Festival since 2024. She has been involved in the developing and implementing projects supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation, the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike), the Wihuri Foundation, the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation, and the Kone Foundation.
