Minna Raassina is an esteemed Master of Music, diploma organist, and the Lead Cantor of the Savonlinna Parish. She studied church music at the Sibelius Academy in Finland and the University of Music and Theatre (Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Theater) in Leipzig, Germany. During her years in Leipzig, she also performed as an alto in the prestigious GewandhausKammerchor.
Raassina is known as an exceptionally versatile musician whose expertise spans organ performance, singing, and piano. She has performed as a soloist in major sacred works, such as Bach’s St. John Passion and Christmas Oratorio, Mozart’s Requiem, and Handel’s Messiah. Her soloist engagements have taken her to significant venues and festivals, including the Leipzig Bach Festival, the Savonlinna Opera Festival, and the Ilmajoki Music Festival. As an organist, she has performed works such as Rheinberger’s Organ Concerto No. 2 as a soloist and has served as the organist and keyboardist for the Savonlinna Opera Festival Orchestra since 2010.
In addition to her artistic work, Raassina is a key figure in professional musical organizations. In 2018, she was elected President of the Association of Finnish Cantors and Organists. Her accolades include being named "Cantor of the Year" in 2016 and receiving the International Women's Day "Rosina of the Year" recognition in 2018.
Together with baritone Raimo Paaso, Raassina forms an acclaimed lied duo. A unique feature of their collaboration is the flexible switching of roles between singer and accompanist during a single performance. Raassina’s interpretations are characterized by a profound connection between text and music, whether she is in the organ loft, at the grand piano, or performing as a vocal soloist.
