Hannu Rantanen
Virtuosic double bassist Hannu Rantanen is a versatile freelance musician, best known to wider audiences for his work with the renowned Finnish group Värttinä. He has performed on both double bass and electric bass in numerous small ensembles and projects, and his broad musical background spans genres from pop, jazz, and fusion to folk, light music, Latin, flamenco, and tango.
Rantanen has collaborated with many prominent Finnish artists and ensembles, including Jaakko Ryhänen, Antti Sarpila – UMO, and the Jukka Linkola Tentet. He has also shared the stage with international stars such as Luis Di’Matteo, Larry Coryell, and Django Bates. In addition to his concert work, he has been active as a theatre musician in various productions and has composed music, including for Kuolemantanssi (The Dance of Death) at the Tampere Workers Theatre.
