Atte Kohtala

Atte Kohtala (b. 2007) is a pianist from Savonlinna. He has actively engaged in a wide range of musical activities at the Savonlinna Music and Dance Institute since infancy, specializing in the piano since 2016 under the tuition of Anja Forsberg. He was selected for the Youth Piano Academy in the summer of 2021, and since the autumn of that year, his teachers have been Niklas Pokki and Kalla Luhtasela from the Savonlinna Music and Dance Institute.

Atte has been awarded a recognition prize at the IX, X, and XI Mikkeli Piano Reviews (2018, 2022, 2025). At the IX Kuopio Piano Competition (2021), he placed third (shared with Aino Lappalainen) and received a special prize for the best Bach interpretation in his category. At the X Kuopio Piano Competition (2024), he won first prize (shared with Gennadii Tinovitskii). Furthermore, he received a recognition prize and a special award from the Society of Finnish Composers at the XII Leevi Madetoja Piano Competition (2022), a finalist prize at the XIII Leevi Madetoja Piano Competition (2025), and second place at the XXIV International Academic Music Competition Jūrmala 2023 for Piano. He was also awarded a special prize for the best interpretation of a modern work at the Nordic Junior Piano Competition (2025) and first prize at the 12th International Piano Competition Città di San Donà di Piave (2025). Atte has also performed, among others, with the Savonlinna Orchestra at the Young Soloists' Concert organized by the Savonlinna Music and Dance Institute.
